Description

This new Steampunk mermaid WIP photo shows the mechanical tail being fabricated. To get the roll edge of sheet metal fabrication I am cheating. After the ledge for each step was formed in glass reinforced Bondo an application of epoxy was allowed to tack and a cloth cord applied in place. After that has set I will apply epoxy to stiffen and then do additional blending

This is indeed my normal way of building form. I have experimented over the years and have found that whatever it takes is what I will use. Once the rough form is established it acts as a guide to give me some help in blending the shapes. They are just an underling support for the glass. Some times I drape t-shirt material stretched over a sculpted form of boobs to get that see through look that 'real' sculptors get in marble, lol....
